CSR at McCormick Communications

“Creating a strong business and a better world are not conflicting goals - they are both essential ingredients for long term success"

Bill Ford

The UN set out 17 clearly defined Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) with the aim of building a better, more equal society and a healthier planet that can be enjoyed by all for future generations.

Having looked at them all, I felt that the following goals fit neatly into McCormick Communications ethos:

  • Quality education
  • Affordable and clean energy
  • Responsible consumption & production
  • Climate action
  • Partnerships for the goals

As an environmental graduate, a mother of two and a lover of the natural environment, I strongly feel that we should each do our part to protect and enhance the quality of our planet for our children, our community and our future generations.

I believe that every child should have fair and equal access to education and that their unique gifts should be nurtured and encouraged to create the workforce and entrepreneurs of our future.

And, I believe that we must work together in partnership to create, and amplify the change that we want, and need to see in society and our planet today.

Creating positive change for individuals, businesses, communities and the planet as a whole is at the core of what I want to achieve here at McCormick Communications and so, below are my current policies regarding my chosen SDG’s:

McCormick Communications CSR Policies and Pledges:

I regularly volunteer my time with Young Enterprise Northern Ireland to help young people prepare for the world ahead and to encourage them to be all that they can be, either through direct employment or starting out as our next generation of young entrepreneurs.

We use energy efficient lighting within the office, and within our home. We are also sign up to a green energy tariff where 100% of our energy comes from renewable sources.

We follow the waste hierarchy (and encourage the family to do the same!); we endeavour to reduce waste at source, reuse or pass on what we can and recycle as much as possible. We avoid unnecessary printed materials and will always select electronic communications as our first, and preferred option for communicating with our clients.

I work hard to raise awareness of sustainability, SDG’s and corporate social responsibility (CSR), working in partnership with established organisations who share our ethos to help amplify the impact of the work that I do with my clients. One example of how I work to achieve this is through our Sustainable Business Conference and Expo event.

McCormick Communications has signed up to ‘Take the Pledge’ with the United Nations Climate Change scheme and am committed to doing my part against climate change. My climate footprint will be monitored, minimalised and offset by investing in sustainability focused projects
